The Disk Utility performs all the disk related activities on a Mac machine. It is used for mounting a hard drive, checking the status of the hard drive, checking the hard drive for different type of errors etc. A major use of Disk Utility however, is that it can be used for creating a disk image, and later performing compression of the disk images.
It is not necessary, that this utility performs without any errors. There are times when Disk Utility itself faces some errors, resulting in loss of data. The error in Disk Utility usually arises when we try to fix hard drive permissions. Disk Utility faces an internal error, and fails to synchronize with the Disk Management Tool. Due to this, the fixing process stops, and there is no further correction that takes place. This error is primarily due to a particular type of file, called the Chess file. When the Disk Management tool encounters a Chess file, it loses connection with Disk Utility resulting in this error.
There are many methods of solving this problem, like deleting the chess file, formatting the whole drive, or re-install the operating system. But these methods do not assure of complete data recovery. It is therefore essential to get hold of a good Mac recovery software. REMO Recover (Mac) Pro Edition software lets you recover Mac data lost or deleted from both HFS+ and HFSX volumes. This Mac data recovery software also lets you recover lost media files from various storage media.
